HDTV LCD question….?
Well.. I’ve recently bought an HDTV Sharp Aquos 32″ LCD.
& I’m quite disappointed.. Here’s the reason why ::::
Whenever I play ps2 (gona get ps3 soon) or watch t.v (reciever).. it shows a weird grainy and cloud-ish image.. like for E.g: whenever a person moves hisher head.. the eyes wobble and move at a slow rate.
Btw – i use composite cables on both my ps2 and reciever.. what I want to know is, is the problem my LCD or my cables?
Please somene answer, thanKs in advance.
So you’re saying that it’s the composite cables that causes the grainy effect, not the TV?
EDIT: Well it’s 720p1080i.
So it isn’t FULL HD. it’s native resolution is 720p which is good right? for a PS3? so you’re saying that If I buy a HD cables and upgrade my satellite, the ghostly image will go?
EDIT: Can’t I use Component cablers to make my ps2 look good on HDTV? and it says on the manual “110-240HZ”
Does it mean that my TV have 120HZ to fix the flaw of the ghostly image?
There are actually a couple of things going on. I have to make assumptions here since you didn’t provide much technical info, so I will assume your television is 1080i/1080p. If this is the case, you are trying to view standard definition material (480i) on a high definition monitor. If the native resolution of the monitor is 1080x… then it MUST display all material in that resolution. Which means for your standard definition material it has to fill in 600 horizontal lines with its own data. If you have a 720p screen, it will look a little better, but still not as good as it would on just a regular tube television. Secondly, composite cables do make for very poor quality on HD televisions. However, you might not have a choice with your ps2. Thirdly, LCD televisions have a known flaw in their technology called ghosting. This happens generally when viewing sports or material with a lot of fast motion on LCD monitors. The new LCD televisions with 120Hz capability are supposed to fix that flaw. Personally, I recommend going with plasma televisions for all purposes due to the better native contrasts and the absence of the ghosting problem. Blacks are black on a plasma whereas on an LCD they are more of a dark charcoal color. So in summary, standard definition material will not look good on HD televisions because of the difference in resolution. Connect as many devices as possible to your television with an HDMI cable. You will see a drastic improvement in picture quality. Either way, your PS2 will be best viewed on a standard television.
Edit: The ghosting is inherent to the LCD technology. That’s not going to go away. It improves on 1080p sets with 120HZ technology. Your 720p/1080i will not have this. 720p/1080i sets are still considered full HD and they are just fine for viewing any HD broadcasted content. All HD broadcasts are in 1080i. The only content that you will find in 1080p are Blu-Rays and the newest gaming consoles. Using component cables will greatly improve the picture quality for sure. Keep in mind component cables are for video only, and you will need separate cables for your sound. Contact your cable provider and get a HD tuner for the best quality picture. Use an HDMI cable with that, and you will be getting the best possible picture and sound that you can get. You will still have the ghosting with the HDMI or component cables just because of the television you have. If you want to get rid of it, switch to plasma. You can get a 1080p LCD with 120HZ, but you will still be lacking in the contrast area again due to the limitations of LCD technology.
