If I have a Sharp HDTV, do I need a Free to air Receiver?

Hi, I have a Sharp Aquos LC32D44U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV.
I am looking to set up Free to air satellite television, and I have a Free to Air dish; but I was wondering if I would still need the Special free to Air receiver, or can my TV Search for the channels, and get them , or FINALLY, Is there a cheaper alternative to the receiver that will work JUST AS GOOD
Actually, free to air is Completely LEGAL in the United States, I have done my research,

First off before spending money on a receiver, are there channels that are free to air that you want?

Most free to air is not in HD. A lot of FTA is international. An HD capable FTA box will cost more but won’t do you any good without an HDTV+ HD programming + HD receiver. 1 dish will limit your channels as they are spread out on different satellites. Your TV alone will not receive any FTA channels without a FTA receiver. Most of the “good” stuff is encrypted but it is illegal to decrypt it in the US, of course if you’re in a different country that is another story as the laws are different.

How do you define “cheaper” and “just as good”? Cheap compared to want? Just as good as what?
